What it does to fuel
As the I-Shift, which is to say very good, with calibration leaning slightly more toward pulling than toward coasting.
What this type is
The same gearbox with the clutch and the shifting actuated. It is NOT an automatic, it has no torque converter, and it fails and gets repaired like a manual. This is now the default in new linehaul, because software shifts more consistently than a person and consistency is fuel.
Known issues
The same actuator and clutch items as the I-Shift, being the same architecture.
Verdict
If the Volvo drivetrain suits the work, so does this, and Mack trucks frequently sell used for less.
