What it does to fuel
Better than an average driver with a manual and worse than a modern integrated box, because it was adapted rather than designed for automation.
What this type is
The same gearbox with the clutch and the shifting actuated. It is NOT an automatic, it has no torque converter, and it fails and gets repaired like a manual. This is now the default in new linehaul, because software shifts more consistently than a person and consistency is fuel.
Known issues
Shift actuator and inertia brake wear, and a reputation for hunting between gears on rolling terrain that the Endurant fixed.
Verdict
Perfectly serviceable used, and the reason to prefer an Endurant if you are buying new. Check the actuator history before you buy.
